Aurorei (ah-ROAR-ray) is a line of essentials for conscious consumers. All Aurorei products are made by hand in our Brooklyn, NY studio. We design, pattern, cut, sew, and package all orders in house. Being vertically integrated gives us control over the entire process ensuring our product are produced ethically.
Accessible Sustainable Fashion
At Aurorei we believe selling direct to consumers is the key to bringing sustainable fashion to a bigger audience. While we’ll never be as cheap as fast fashion (i.e. H&M or Forever 21), our goal is to bridge the gap between fast fashion and the sustainable fashion industry. By cutting out retailer markups we can sell our goods at half the price without compromising on the quality of our materials or ethical standards.
We are committed to working with only natural and organically sourced materials. All of our fabrics are woven in a 75+ year old mill outside of Osaka, Japan. The mill shares our commitment to extreme attention to detail and sustainable manufacturing.
The root words Aurora (Nordic for new/dawn) and Rei (Japanese for companion/ghost) combine to create our name “Aurorei” which roughly translates to “new companion.” We derive our inspiration from Japanese and Nordic design to create pieces that are multifunctional, multi-gender, and will last a lifetime.
Aurorei is designed and owned by Alexa Jau who lives in Brooklyn with her husband and shelter pup Kuma. After studying menswear at RISD, Alexa created a womenswear line based off the menswear basics she learned in school. Alexa hopes that Aurorei helps more people of every gender build a functional, minimalistic, and lifelong sustainable wardrobe.
